About Us:
The Monash University Malaysia Animal Research Platform (MUMARP) is dedicated to advancing scientific discovery through exceptional support for research involving laboratory animals. We uphold a high standard of animal care, welfare, and ethical compliance, ensuring that all activities align with institutional and international regulations. Our facility provides a controlled and well-managed environment for preclinical and biomedical research.
We offer a comprehensive suite of services, including expert animal housing and care, specialized technical assistance, professional training and consultation, as well as streamlined facility access and equipment reservation, which are all designed to empower researchers and enhance the quality of their work.
Our Equipment:
1. Animal Care & Housing
• Individually Ventilated Cage (IVC) Systems with Air Handling Units (AHU)
• Rodent metabolic cages
• Temperature and humidity monitoring systems
2. Imaging & Monitoring Equipment
• ZEISS Axio V16 Fluorescence and brightfield microscope
• Nikon stereomicroscopes for small animal observation (eg. zebrafish embryo and larvae observation)
• Physiological monitoring systems (ECG, temperature, respiration)
3. Experimental & Surgical Equipment
• Anaesthesia systems (carbon dioxide and isoflurane vaporizer system)
• Rodent microdrill (for ICV injection)
• Stereotaxic equipment
• Pump equipment (to pump reagents during IC injection)
• Stereomicroscopes with microinjectors (for zebrafish adult and embryo injections)
4. Behavioural & Functional Testing
• Open field test apparatus
• Light-dark test apparatus
• Rodent maze (eg. Y-maze, elevated plus maze, Morris water maze)
• Rotarod system
• Cage activity monitoring system
• Behavior systems (SMART software, Noldus EthoVision XT, Noldus DanioVision)
